What an amazing day it was for some fishing out of Ozello North just south of Crystal River. After hitting the backwater islands sight and missing some nice reds, I headed out toward an open flat just inside of Mullet Key. Earlier I landed a 20″ snook, but was target redfish, so I went to a Gold Spoon search trusted by many…I confess, I have yet to catch a red on a gold spoon yet…working around a flat inside of Mullet Key, I came to a grassy oyster bed that looked promising and on my second cast, boom! A solid underslot 24″ Snook hammered the Gold Spoon…what a nice surprise on the flat. It was the second and biggest snook on the day, and my first on a gold spoon…I am convinced these spoons are probably will be one of my favorite go to lures as I learn how to work them with each cast and catch. On the day I landed two other snook on paddletail soft plastics, and a my first multi-spotted, 3-spot redfish. I couldn’t find the trout or flounder for an inshore slam, but overall had a nice day exploring some new spots.
