Second chance for annual scale calibration!

All scales used to weigh fish for the annual GOFC contests including the John Ellett Angler of the Year award are required to be calibrated and certified annually for accuracy. Anyone who missed having their scale calibrated at the January meeting will have a second chance at the February meeting. A certification station will be set up in the back of the room. Be sure to bring your scale!

Featured Speaker: Gulf Council Member, Ed Walker

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council was created by Congress in 1976 and is responsible for regulating and managing the United States' Gulf of Mexico fishery. The council specifically manages reef fish including grouper and red snapper, shrimp, spiny lobster, coastal migratory pelagics, corals, essential fish habitat, red drum, and aquaculture in federal waters from three to 200 miles offshore. Our featured speaker, Ed Walker, was appointed to the Gulf Council in June of 2023 by US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo after being nominated by Florida Governor, Ron Desantis. Ed Walker is a recreational angler, a charter captain, a hook-and-line commercial fisherman, and an avid tournament angler. He will talk about the fisheries management process and answer questions from the audience.
